Sighting in Rambouillet, July 31, 2008

Yvelines, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on July 31, 2008 in Rambouillet (Yvelines, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

From a private garden, the witness watched nine lights cross the starry sky silently from east to west at around 11:15 pm, for about five seconds. The lights did not blink. They were arranged in three groups of three, each group forming a triangle, and together they outlined a larger triangular formation. The formation then suddenly climbed upward and disappeared. The witness clearly saw something strange and was deeply impressed by it.

No other account of the event was collected. The lights moved in a direction that did not match the wind, which rules out Thai lanterns. The case was submitted to GEIPAN's experts. The account holds few concrete details and rests on a single witness, so its consistency is low. The case is therefore classified C: there is not enough information to make use of the observation.

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
