Sighting in Rambouillet, August 10, 2011

Yvelines, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on August 10, 2011 in Rambouillet (Yvelines, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

At around 11 p.m., a witness who was at home noticed a point of light moving slowly in a straight line across the sky. They filmed it until it disappeared behind some trees. The witness said they had already seen the same phenomenon in June 2011.

GEIPAN found the case to be of low strangeness and good consistency, and in every respect it resembled a mistaken sighting of an aircraft on its landing approach. However, the observation site was fairly far from the main Île-de-France airports, whose approach was most likely made from the east that evening. This distance ruled out an A classification, and the case was rated B: probably identified.
