Sighting on November 15, 1983 in Rentree Atmospherique — National (France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the atmospheric re-entry of a space object (rocket stage, debris) (class B).

What happened

Between 5 and 6 a.m., witnesses in several départements (Yonne, Seine-et-Marne, Paris, Essonne, Seine-Saint-Denis and Pas-de-Calais) noticed an unusual phenomenon. All of them described a very bright, colourful mass of light crossing the sky at high speed.

The sightings lasted roughly ten seconds. None of the witnesses heard any noise while it was visible.

GEIPAN classified the case as B: the witnesses most probably saw an atmospheric re-entry.
