Sighting on July 16, 1979 in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon (France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At about 9:40 p.m., two witnesses noticed a bright object in the sky. It was trapezoid-shaped and dark in color, with four lights at the front and a red light at the rear.

The object first hung motionless above the Anse du Savoyard, then moved slowly eastward. After suddenly accelerating, it climbed straight up into the sky and disappeared. The witnesses heard no noise.

The investigation established that no aircraft had taken off from or landed on the island after 8 p.m. No other witness account of the phenomenon was gathered. GEIPAN classified the case as D: it remains unexplained.
