Sighting in Sallanches, June 10, 2010

Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on June 10, 2010 in Sallanches (Haute-Savoie, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

One evening, between 10:30 pm and about 11 pm, a witness standing on the terrace of their home noticed a point of light that caught their attention. It stayed still in the south-east for about fifteen minutes. It then moved toward the north-east until it disappeared behind the landscape.

The gendarmerie drew up a report, but it was unable to get back in touch with the main witness or with the other people named. The file contained no telephone number or email address that would have allowed quick contact. Given the time that had passed and the limited information in the report, GEIPAN could not carry out a proper investigation.

The duration, which could not be verified, and the brief description from a single witness left every hypothesis open: an aircraft in a holding pattern, a balloon with its payload hanging below (the shape mentioned being circular with a plume underneath), or something else. The case was classified C because of insufficient information.
