Sighting in Ully-Saint-Georges, April 16, 2014

Oise, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on April 16, 2014 in Ully-Saint-Georges (Oise, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

At around 8 p.m., the witness was photographing birds when a strange, rapidly flashing light caught their attention. Looking through the camera, they saw a translucent black object. It did not show up in the photographs they took. No one else reported seeing it.

The investigation found conditions favourable to strong light reflections off parts of an airliner toward the witness. It also noted the presence of anti-collision and/or navigation lights, and a speed and distance for the phenomenon that were consistent with those of an airliner. GEIPAN concluded that the witness had most likely seen an airliner whose fuselage, or part of it, was brightly lit by the setting sun and reflected the light toward them. The case is classified B: probable observation of an airliner lit by the setting sun.
