Sighting in Vallauris, July 30, 2010

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on July 30, 2010 in Vallauris (Alpes-Maritimes, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a meteor or fireball (class B).

What happened

At around 9 p.m., several people on a beach watched a bright, opaque white light cross the sky quickly and without a sound. Only one account was collected. The witness described a very bright ball that moved at great speed for about a second and a half and then vanished.

GEIPAN found that these characteristics fit the appearance of a meteor, in this case a "big" shooting star. The case was classified B: probable observation of a meteor.
