Sighting in Vannes, December 7, 2018

Morbihan, Bretagne, France

Sighting on December 7, 2018 in Vannes (Morbihan, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a weather phenomenon (storm, lightning, cloud…) (class A).

What happened

At around 5 p.m. on a Friday, the witness was waiting for their child to come home from school and had started photographing clouds. In the very first shot, three bright points arranged in a triangle caught their attention. They were moving toward the east. The witness took several photographs, then stopped observing when their son arrived. They later sent the pictures to GEIPAN, which received no other account of the event.

The witness had only noticed the three white points, close to a cloud, on the photo of that cloud, and only after zooming in. The investigation concluded that it was probably just the triangular arrangement of round shapes that made the scene seem strange, since the photos show other small wisps of cloud of various shapes around the cloud. In another photo, the witness pointed out wisps that no longer had the very round shape that had first drawn their eye. Such wisps naturally change shape and position quickly, whether on their own or near larger clouds. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A: observation of clouds.
