Sighting in Vaucresson, January 1, 1981

Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on January 1, 1981 in Vaucresson (Hauts-de-Seine, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 9:40 p.m., two police officers noticed a luminous phenomenon that puzzled them. A flickering yellow-orange glow hung in the sky at an estimated height of 100 to 150 metres.

As they followed the progress of the light, they made out a circular craft spinning on its own axis. It moved at a slow, steady speed and made no sound, and it seemed to begin descending. It gave off several flashing lights and left a short trail behind it.

The sighting lasted about one minute and ended when the landscape hid the object from view. No further information could be gathered about the phenomenon. GEIPAN classified it as D: it remains unexplained.
