Sighting in Vaux-le-Pénil, March 3, 2015

Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on March 3, 2015 in Vaux-le-Pénil (Seine-et-Marne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 9:30 a.m., a witness looking through a roof window saw two objects cross a clear sky: a translucent sphere and a bright white triangular object. Both moved in a straight line and disappeared toward the north. The witness heard no particular noise. The sighting lasted less than ten seconds, and the field of view was restricted. No other witness account was collected.

GEIPAN noted that the account was very brief and that the narrow window made it impossible to assess the trajectory. The translucent sphere could have been a balloon carried by a south wind, according to the weather record for Melun. The triangle, which gave off flashes, suggested an aircraft. Flightradar showed one possible candidate within the witness's view, but it was flying high, could not have looked like a triangle, and was heading southeast, whereas the witness saw the objects leave toward the north. A drone fitted with flashing LEDs was also considered, but it could not be checked without further evidence. Because the sighting was so short and the field of view so narrow, no firm conclusion could be reached on this case, which was rated as of moderate strangeness and low consistency. GEIPAN classified it C, for lack of corroboration.
