Sighting in Vernouillet, June 13, 2005

Yvelines, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on June 13, 2005 in Vernouillet (Yvelines, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 4:35 p.m., a witness who was with their students noticed a bright point in the sky, about the size of a star. After a few minutes, the point seemed to split in two. Over the following minutes, the witness saw several points moving slowly relative to one another, much like airliners flying at very high altitude.

The witness took photographs with their mobile phone but did not hand them over to the gendarmerie. The investigation settled on the explanation that the sun was reflecting off airliners passing at high altitude. The case was classified B, probably identified: the sightings were most likely airliners.
