Sighting in Versailles, June 6, 1980

Yvelines, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on June 6, 1980 in Versailles (Yvelines, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around two in the morning, three civil servants on patrol noticed a bright object crossing the sky. It moved from west to east in a straight line and at high speed. Its front end was rounded and its rear tapered to a point. It shone like a neon light.

The sighting lasted about four seconds, after which the object disappeared at the horizon. The witnesses heard no sound, neither from its movement nor from anything falling.

No further information was gathered about the phenomenon. Because the data were insufficient, GEIPAN classified the case as C: an observation of a luminous object in the sky, with no explanation that could be put forward.
