Sighting in Vienne-en-Arthies, October 16, 2013

Val-d'Oise, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on October 16, 2013 in Vienne-en-Arthies (Val-d'Oise, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a hoax (class B).

What happened

At around 6 p.m., a witness riding home on a scooter stopped along the way and noticed a dark, oval-shaped object above the trees. It stayed still at first, then moved slowly. The witness had time to take several photographs before the object suddenly vanished.

Analysis of the key photograph established with certainty that it was not authentic, as the detailed report explains. The credibility and consistency of the case were therefore rated as very low, even though the witness's account appeared sincere. GEIPAN did not pursue the investigation and classified the case as B, a probable hoax: the sighting may have been real, but the photo is certainly not authentic.
