Sighting in Bagnères-de-Bigorre, September 23, 2022
Hautes-Pyrénées, Occitanie, France
Sighting on September 23, 2022 in Bagnères-de-Bigorre (Hautes-Pyrénées, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
Between 1:20 and 1:30 in the morning, a witness staying in town for a spa treatment noticed an especially bright light through the window of their residence. They first took it for the Moon. After about five minutes they went to the window and saw a pale yellow luminous ball with a thin brown and yellow outline, moving horizontally to the left. The object seemed to float above the street, at the witness's eye level, and vanished after a short while. The observation itself lasted about 5 seconds. No other witness account was collected.
GEIPAN received no reply to its attempts to contact the witness, and the technical questionnaire brought no further information. The investigation therefore relied solely on the gendarmerie's report. Because key data were missing (azimuths, elevations, trajectory, brightness, apparent size, sound, and so on), the case was classified C: an unidentified phenomenon owing to insufficient data.
