Sighting in Bar-le-Duc, September 1, 2011

Meuse, Grand Est, France

Sighting on September 1, 2011 in Bar-le-Duc (Meuse, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At 10:35 pm, the witness was out on their terrace when three yellowish lights crossed the sky from east to west. They moved quickly and made no sound, then vanished behind a cloud.

GEIPAN noted that the yellowish points drifted in the same direction as the wind (according to the Lorraine weather data), which fits very well with the appearance of Thai lanterns. These were probably released east of the town, possibly near the stadium. The case was classified B: probable sighting of Thai lanterns.
