Sighting on February 28, 2009 in Basse-Ham (Moselle, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the atmospheric re-entry of a space object (rocket stage, debris) (class B).

What happened

At around 9:45 pm, a witness who was looking at the sky suddenly saw a fireball followed by a yellow flame. The whole thing crossed the sky horizontally, from west to east. The sighting lasted only two to three seconds.

GEIPAN classified the case as B, meaning probably identified. Little information was available, but the characteristics described match those of a probable atmospheric re-entry.
