SkyUnknown lists 845 UFO sightings in 2009 worldwide, drawn from official records: Ministry of Defence (UK) for 640 cases, GEIPAN (CNES) for 201, and Aeronautica Militare (Italie) for 4.

Of the 205 cases with a conclusion from their source, 54% are explained (with certainty or probably), 43% lack the data to conclude, and 6 remain unidentified. The most frequent identified causes: sky lanterns (32); meteors and fireballs (14); space station (ISS) (13).
