Sighting in Bélis, April 1998

Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting in April 1998 in Bélis (Landes, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 2 p.m. in April 1998 (the witness could no longer remember the exact day), the witness was standing in front of their holiday home when a lingering shadow passed over them. Looking up, they saw a round, black craft just above the house, moving slowly and without any noise.

The craft then came to a stop in front of the witness, three or four metres above the ground. The witness could make out two fairly young men in a cockpit, one behind the other, wearing plain white helmets with no visor. The craft then moved off over the trees toward the west. No other testimony was collected.

The account was only reported to the GEIPAN on 18 October 2013, more than fifteen years after the events. The GEIPAN noted a significant risk of false memories, at least in part. The exact date of the sighting is also unknown, which rules out any comparison with similar cases. Because of the lack of precise information and of corroboration, the case was classified C.
