Sighting in Bertangles, July 11, 2010

Somme, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on July 11, 2010 in Bertangles (Somme, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At around 2:30 in the morning, a witness and their spouse saw between 15 and 20 orange glowing balls in the sky. They moved silently from south to north. The sighting lasted about a quarter of an hour, and the witness used that time to take photographs.

The gendarmerie did not collect any other accounts. According to the GEIPAN, the witness's photos leave little doubt that what was seen was very probably a group of flying lanterns, of the Thai lantern type. The case was therefore classified B, probably identified.
