Sighting in Bonnières, February 18, 2012

Oise, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on February 18, 2012 in Bonnières (Oise, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

One evening at around 8 p.m., a witness noticed a luminous phenomenon in the sky that puzzled them. An elongated white glow hung motionless above the buildings of a farmstead. It suddenly went out, then reappeared a few seconds later in the same spot. It then traced a geometric figure, a half Z, at great speed before quickly vanishing.

No other witness account was collected. GEIPAN considered the case to have low strangeness and low consistency, since there was no precise indication of the direction of the sighting. In its assessment, the witness was most likely mistaken about the movements of the light beam from a Sky Tracer-type projector. The case is classified B: probable observation of a light animation.
