Sighting on August 17, 1988 in Brignoles (Var, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a meteor or fireball (class B).

What happened

At around 10:30 p.m., several witnesses briefly saw an orange ball in the sky, followed by a bluish light. Their accounts differed somewhat, particularly regarding the object's speed.

The object could also bring the moon to mind, but GEIPAN concluded that it was probably an atmospheric re-entry. The case was classified B (probably identified).
