Sighting in Brives, December 25, 2022

Corrèze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on December 25, 2022 in Brives (Corrèze, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

On Christmas evening, at about 9:45 pm, the witness was driving along the A20 motorway toward Limoges, in the Uzerche area. Through the windscreen, they noticed two round objects, blue, white and grey in colour. One stayed still, while the other moved around close to it, in every direction. The sighting lasted roughly 20 seconds. Both objects vanished abruptly just as the witness tried to photograph them, so no image was obtained.

GEIPAN rated the case's consistency as medium: there was only one witness, and no photo or video. In its assessment, the description (round shape, blue/white/grey colours, one fixed point and another moving in all directions) matches a skytracer very well. The sky was covered with fairly low cloud, which could have served as a screen for light projected upwards. A nightclub in the area was open that evening, but it had no skytracer. Using one at a private party, especially at Christmas, is entirely plausible, since this kind of equipment has become common. With no other witnesses and the witness's exact position uncertain, the explanation could be neither formally confirmed nor ruled out. It nonetheless remains probable, hence the B classification.
