Sighting in Caen, September 28, 2013

Calvados, Normandie, France

Sighting on September 28, 2013 in Caen (Calvados, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At around 9 p.m. on a Saturday evening, a witness saw eight bright red objects cross the sky from east to west. They all followed the same path and passed by without a sound.

GEIPAN noted that several red shapes following one path, in the same direction as the wind (blowing from the southeast), on a Saturday evening, strongly suggested a release of Thai lanterns, that is, flying lanterns. The case was considered of little strangeness and classified B: probable sighting of Thai lanterns.
