Sighting in Ménil-Hubert-sur-Orne, May 29, 2013

Orne, Normandie, France

Sighting on May 29, 2013 in Ménil-Hubert-sur-Orne (Orne, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 11:45 pm, a motorist noticed a dark object a few dozen metres above the ground, shaped like a pebble. It carried two red lights, one at the front and one at the back. The object moved towards the north-west, fairly slowly and in a straight line, then disappeared behind a hedge. Throughout the minute the sighting lasted, the witness also heard a high-pitched buzzing sound.

In their questionnaire the witness gave the date as 30 May, but the sighting actually took place on 29 May. The GEIPAN investigation found no reason to doubt the witness's sincerity. However, the case does not match any of the classic misidentifications, and a pebble shape is unusual among reports of unidentified aerospace phenomena. The witness was the only person to report the sighting, there is no photo or video, and the description is brief. The case was therefore rated moderately strange and moderately consistent, and it is classified D1, unexplained phenomenon. Any further testimony could either explain it or make it more consistent.
