Sighting in Châtenay-Malabry, April 2006

Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France

Sighting in April 2006 in Châtenay-Malabry (Hauts-de-Seine, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness reported, a long time after the event, something they had seen in April 2006 at around 10 a.m. The exact day is unknown. In the sky, they saw a black object moving in a straight line without making any sound. It travelled at a constant speed and eventually vanished at the horizon. The witness likened it to an "oil barrel" or a "black booth".

The investigation noted that the fairly low altitude, the black barrel shape and the slow movement, possibly drifting with the wind, suggested a thermal (solar) balloon. However, because the date of the sighting is not known, this hypothesis could not be supported. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C, meaning insufficient information.
