What happened

A motorist phoned the GEIPAN to report seeing a dark flying object, which they described as a "plate". It moved across the sky near Compiègne, made a sudden turn of about 45°, and then disappeared toward Lille. The witness heard no noise at all.

The GEIPAN followed up with the witness several times but received no further details on the exact location, the position of the object, the length of the sighting, or any other characteristics. No police report reached the GEIPAN either. Because of this lack of information, the case was classified C.
