Sighting in Conde-sur-Escaut, October 2, 1977

Nord, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on October 2, 1977 in Conde-sur-Escaut (Nord, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Toward the end of the day, a witness who was out in a field saw a bright, spherical object pass overhead for a very brief moment. Other people noticed an unusual glow at the far end of that same field, where the witness had been standing.

The gendarmerie was only alerted three days later. They found no marks on the ground in the area the witnesses pointed out, and no other testimony was collected that could have added detail. GEIPAN described the event as the passage of a luminous ball together with a glow on the ground, and classified the case C because the available data were insufficient.
