Sighting in Lambersart, June 17, 2012

Nord, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on June 17, 2012 in Lambersart (Nord, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At about 4 a.m., the witness was on their terrace when a group of ten to fifteen transparent spheres passed overhead for roughly 15 seconds. They flew in formation across a clear sky and made no sound. The whole group moved away quickly to the north, toward a bank of cloud, and every object vanished into it. Only one witness account was collected, and there was no photograph.

The GEIPAN investigation put the transparent, spherical objects at an altitude of between 1,460 m and 2,000 m, moving silently. Their characteristics, particularly the physical ones, match no known natural or manufactured object. The testimony was judged fairly consistent because it was precise, but it came from a single witness and was not backed by any image. The sighting is described as strange: the objects looked unusual, although their behaviour was not out of the ordinary. The case is classified D (unexplained), subcategory D1, an observation of objects of unknown nature.
