Deux-Sèvres, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on September 10, 1980 in Courlay (Deux-Sèvres, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

On the night of 9 to 10 September 1980, at about 12:45 a.m., a witness was standing on their doorstep when they noticed a luminous phenomenon. About a hundred metres away, on the path leading to their home, a glow was lighting up a road sign. The witness heard no noise and saw no car. They then made out an elongated object moving in jerks about 1.5 m above the ground. The object gradually climbed, then vanished into the landscape. The witness noticed no particular smell.

No other testimony was collected about this phenomenon. Because the information available was insufficient, the GEIPAN classified the case as C (insufficient data).
