Sighting in Dombasle-sur-Meurthe, August 11, 2015

Meurthe-et-Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 11, 2015 in Dombasle-sur-Meurthe (Meurthe-et-Moselle, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 10:05 p.m., a witness sitting on their terrace noticed two bright spots of light of different colours, low in a clear sky. They moved silently in a straight line, then sped up and zigzagged before settling back onto a straight path and disappearing. Throughout the whole movement, the distance between the two lights stayed the same.

The witness supplied their GPS position, the exact azimuth of the observation and an annotated photograph showing what they had seen. Only one account reached the GEIPAN.

The investigation noted that there was no precise data on the colours of the phenomenon. The most plausible explanation was a mistaken sighting of a drone flying at night, but the lack of information did not allow this to be confirmed with certainty. Because there was no corroboration and too few elements to support a firm opinion, the GEIPAN rated the case C: insufficient data.
