Sighting in Évrecy, September 8, 1979

Calvados, Normandie, France

Sighting on September 8, 1979 in Évrecy (Calvados, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 4:30 in the morning, two witnesses were in their bedroom when they saw a circular object cross the sky. It moved very fast and was gradually losing altitude. An orange glow surrounded it like a halo. One of the witnesses went to open the window and received an electric shock.

No one else reported the phenomenon, and the EDF station found no anomaly on its lines. GEIPAN concluded that the witnesses had probably seen an atmospheric reentry, hence the B classification. The electric shock, even though it happened during the sighting, cannot be directly linked to this type of phenomenon.
