What happened

At around 7:30 p.m., several witnesses in the same area saw a pinkish-red ball falling toward the ground. An explosion was also heard.

The investigation showed that a person had fired a distress flare, with no particular purpose. What the witnesses had taken for a pinkish-red ball was the flare's red-pink smoke, followed by the parachute drifting in the wind. GEIPAN classified the case as A (identified): the fall of a red ball.
