Sighting in Fameck, June 3, 2008

Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on June 3, 2008 in Fameck (Moselle, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A witness contacted the GEIPAN on 3 August 2009, more than a year after the event, to report an observation made at about 9 p.m. From a third-floor balcony, they saw three objects pass one after another, each shaped like a rugby ball. Their colour was a faded mix of brown and yellow. Each followed a straight path, and two of them travelled in the same direction. The witness heard no noise. The sighting lasted about ten seconds, until the objects left the field of view, which was obscured by clouds.

The investigation rated the case as having low to moderate strangeness. The fairly probable hypothesis was that the witness had seen aircraft whose shape and brightness looked unusual, since the time was close to sunset, which occurred 14 minutes later. Because the inquiry came too late to test this idea, and because information on flights in the area at that time was lacking, the case was classed C, for insufficient data.
