Sighting in Fleurines, June 17, 1993

Oise, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on June 17, 1993 in Fleurines (Oise, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class A).

What happened

At around 4 a.m., a witness saw two white lights moving very fast, first from the foot of their apartment building and then from their car. The lights moved in the sky and on the ground, tracing circles at very high speed. The sighting lasted more than fifteen minutes, with no particular sound. The witness mentioned clouds. No other testimony was collected.

The case was first classified D in 1993 and was among those the GEIPAN re-examined. With the experience gained since then, the description clearly matches laser reflections on clouds, with one or more spots moving back and forth. The clouds acted as a screen. Here the rising beams were visible, and the witness took them for beams sent down toward the ground by the phenomenon. The gendarmerie report records that laser tests had taken place nearby that same night. The GEIPAN also notes that the account is typical of the emotion an unknown phenomenon can cause, especially when it seems to be an intelligence following the witness. The case is classified A: laser.
