Sighting in Florange, November 12, 2011

Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on November 12, 2011 in Florange (Moselle, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

The witness was in the southern suburbs of Thionville when they noticed an orange ball of light. It was flying at low altitude, moving from north to south.

The GEIPAN investigation compared the description and the path of the object with the wind, using the weather records. The object drifted with the wind, and its appearance matched that of a Thai lantern in every respect. The case was therefore classified B: most likely a Thai lantern passing by.
