Sighting in Franconville, June 27, 2009

Val-d'Oise, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on June 27, 2009 in Franconville (Val-d'Oise, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A witness reported by telephone that, during the night of 27 June 2009, between 11:55 p.m. and midnight, they saw about fifty orange glowing balls pass by. According to them, other people in their building had made the same observation.

Such a large number of orange balls of light suggests flying lanterns. However, GEIPAN could not carry out an investigation: no questionnaire was returned and there is no police or gendarmerie report, despite several follow-up requests to the witness. Because of the lack of further information, the case was classified C, insufficient data.
