Sighting in Froissy, December 10, 2011

Oise, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on December 10, 2011 in Froissy (Oise, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A motorist was driving on the A16, coming from Paris, when they noticed many very powerful lights above the horizon in a stormy sky. The lights all seemed to come from a triangular shape. It climbed quickly into the black clouds, then reappeared before vanishing rapidly toward the north. According to the witness, several other vehicles slowed down during the sighting, but the GEIPAN received no other testimony.

The investigation rated the case as of medium strangeness and low consistency as it stands: there is only one witness, and both the observation location and the lines of sight are uncertain. Two hypotheses were considered, the re-entry of space debris and Thai lanterns, but neither fits the report closely enough to be accepted. The case is classified C, for lack of sufficient information, pending any further testimony.
