Sighting in Grandvillars, April 14, 2013

Territoire de Belfort, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on April 14, 2013 in Grandvillars (Territoire de Belfort, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 1:30 in the morning, a person driving a car saw a black sphere for a few seconds. It moved in a straight line and then disappeared behind some trees. No one else reported seeing it.

GEIPAN's analysis found that the object did not match any of the usual misidentifications. However, it seemed fairly distant and moved in a straight line, which makes the case not very strange. The witness was alone, the sighting was very brief, and it came after a very long day, so the account is not very robust. An illusion, a confusion with a night bird, or a vision problem caused by tiredness cannot be ruled out.

The low level of strangeness did not warrant an in-depth investigation. The gendarmerie report had not yet reached GEIPAN. The case was classified C because of a lack of information and corroboration.
