Sighting in Grasse, January 3, 2009

Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting on January 3, 2009 in Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 8:10 p.m., a driver and their passenger saw a very light yellow point of light drop quickly through the sky. It left no trail behind it. It soon vanished behind a hill, and neither of the two witnesses heard any particular noise.

The GEIPAN investigation considered an atmospheric re-entry as a possible explanation. However, the witnesses did not provide more precise information, although it had been requested, in particular a police report. The data were therefore too limited to allow a full investigation, and the case was classified C.
