Insufficient data

Sighting in Hayange, March 22, 2009

Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on March 22, 2009 in Hayange (Moselle, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 8:45 p.m., two people noticed a yellow ball crossing the sky at low altitude without making any sound. Both witnesses watched it for a while: it began to zigzag sideways, quickly and in jerks, then turned orange and vanished rapidly.

Only one account was collected by GEIPAN. Apart from the changes of direction, the description closely resembles the atmospheric re-entry of satellite debris or a meteoroid, or else a festive lantern. The strangeness of the observation was rated as moderate, but the overall consistency was not enough to justify a D1 classification. Because there were no independent accounts and nothing to cross-check against, the case was classified C, meaning the data are insufficient.
