Sighting in Hégenheim, December 30, 2002

Haut-Rhin, Grand Est, France

Sighting on December 30, 2002 in Hégenheim (Haut-Rhin, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness reported in June 2011 an observation dating from 30 December 2002. They were watching a fireworks display when they noticed a luminous phenomenon in the sky that they could not explain. They described a white circle of light, stationary in the sky, that spun in one direction and then in the other.

Only one account of the phenomenon was collected. Because the case was reported long afterwards, on 8 June 2011, no investigation could be carried out, and there was no other testimony to compare it with. GEIPAN therefore classified the case C, for lack of sufficient information.

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
