Sighting in Jaunay-Clan, June 27, 2013

Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on June 27, 2013 in Jaunay-Clan (Vienne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 11:45 p.m., a witness saw three luminous phenomena move silently across a clear sky for three to four seconds. Two of them were rectangular and green, while the third was white. They crossed the horizon in a straight line in just a few seconds. The witness later confirmed the sighting by email.

The GEIPAN considered that white or green points of light streaking in a straight line like this could come from a meteoroid that broke up as it entered the atmosphere. To test this idea, it looked for other witness accounts or video recordings in the Base des Observateurs Amateurs de Météores (BOAM), but found nothing that truly matched the event. With no corroborating evidence to support the hypothesis, the case was classified C, meaning the available information was insufficient.
