Sighting in La Couronne, May 6, 2010

Charente, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on May 6, 2010 in La Couronne (Charente, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness was looking at the starry sky when they noticed a bright point of light. To its right was a red point, with a green point beneath it. The lights moved together and looked like an aircraft, until they separated and each headed off in the opposite direction.

The investigation found that the first part of the sighting, a bright point above the horizon with red and green points, fits what a star or planet looks like when its light twinkles because of the atmosphere. The separation of the two points matches no known phenomenon, apart from an optical illusion following the object's disappearance. Strangeness was rated low for the beginning and medium for the end. The case has low consistency: there was a single witness, and the account was imprecise and contained inconsistencies. Without reliable information or corroboration, GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion and classified the case C, insufficient data.
