Sighting in Laître-sous-Amance, May 31, 2008

Meurthe-et-Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on May 31, 2008 in Laître-sous-Amance (Meurthe-et-Moselle, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

After seeing a television report about lights in the sky, a witness reported having seen something on the evening of 31 May 2008, between 10:30 and 11:00 pm, together with other people. It was a large white light followed by a smaller red one. The two moved one behind the other without making any noise, and then disappeared.

GEIPAN considered the account to be of very little strangeness, and the description too brief for a serious study. The witness did not respond to the request to complete a questionnaire or to file a statement with the gendarmerie. Satellite passes and/or Thai flying lanterns could simply account for the sighting, but the lack of detail made it impossible to check either possibility. Without precise data, the case was classified C (insufficient data).
