Sighting in Laneuveville-devant-Nancy, April 10, 2022

Meurthe-et-Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on April 10, 2022 in Laneuveville-devant-Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class A).

What happened

At around 10 a.m., the witness was doing housework in their children's bedroom when they noticed, through the window, a small bright point very high in the sky. It moved slowly and left no trail. At first it seemed motionless for almost a minute, then it picked up speed and changed direction abruptly several times. It then appeared to stop again and tilt, taking on the look of a T with a bar extending on both sides and a dot at the middle of one side. The observation lasted more than five minutes. The object finally vanished into the distance after a very rapid acceleration.

The witness found the event strange because of the trajectory, the shape seen at the end, an altitude higher than that of the aircraft they usually watch, and the lack of a trail, which had first made them think of a glider.

GEIPAN considered the testimony to be of good quality, as the information given was consistent with all the data gathered. A review of the file, the CNOA map and an exchange with the Azelot airfield made it possible to identify the object: a Pilatus aircraft that had taken off from that airfield to drop skydivers from the Nancy parachuting school. The case is classified A: observation of an aircraft.
