Sighting in Laqueuille, January 24, 2008

Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on January 24, 2008 in Laqueuille (Puy-de-Dôme, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At about 1:15 in the morning, a witness saw a white light high up in a clear sky. It traced two circles and then vanished. A loud rumbling noise could be heard throughout the sighting.

The witness's description suggests an aircraft, although the way the point of light moved is surprising. The investigation noted, however, that the witness was at the edge of a military air training area, shown on the defence low-altitude network map (RTBA). A military aircraft carrying out manoeuvres could quite well behave in this way. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as B: a probable sighting of a military aircraft on manoeuvres.
