Sighting in Le Bugue, November 5, 2012

Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on November 5, 2012 in Le Bugue (Dordogne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

At around 7:30 p.m., two witnesses watched a red luminous object in the sky for about one minute. It had two flashing white lights and looked hexagonal to them.

The GEIPAN investigation noted that the lights and the sound the witnesses perceived matched those of an aircraft. The flight path lay along the axis of two nearby airfields, consistent with a landing or a takeoff. One of these airfields hosts a flying club whose light aircraft are approved for night flying.

GEIPAN concluded that the witnesses had probably seen a light aircraft shortly after takeoff or shortly before landing, departing from or heading to a nearby airfield. The case was classified B (probably identified).
