Sighting in Le Raincy, October 31, 2009

Seine-Saint-Denis, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on October 31, 2009 in Le Raincy (Seine-Saint-Denis, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

At around 3:30 a.m., a witness noticed several luminous balls in the sky moving in a kind of ballet and colliding with one another several times. The witness eventually woke their partner, who saw the same thing. The display went on for several hours. At about 5 a.m., the witness went back to bed while the phenomenon was still under way.

The GEIPAN investigation concluded that the phenomenon was probably caused by the rotation of two sky trackers, searchlights projecting light beams, and that it was a laser-beam light show. The location of the show could not be found or confirmed. Since the case had a low level of strangeness, it was classified B (probably identified).
