Sighting in Les Forges, March 27, 2010

Vosges, Grand Est, France

Sighting on March 27, 2010 in Les Forges (Vosges, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At around 10:30 pm, two witnesses at home saw about twenty glowing, yellow-orange balls go by. The balls first gathered together, then followed the same west-to-east path for several minutes. The witnesses heard no sound. One of them took photographs.

The GEIPAN concluded that the description and the photographs matched a release of Thai-style lanterns, a phenomenon that is now well known. The sighting took place on a Saturday evening, a common time for such releases (parties, weddings, the end of a weekend). The case was classified B, probably identified.
