Sighting in Loiret, November 11, 1979

Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on November 11, 1979, exact location not given (département: Loiret, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

On 1 December 1979, the gendarmerie learned from the press that several residents of the same locality had seen "craft" or "objects" moving across the sky above their town on 11 November, at about 6:45 pm. They described the objects as round, with a dome on top and flashing lights of different colours. The accounts were brief but numerous, coming from eight witnesses in all.

The gendarmerie later found a ninth witness, who reported a separate sighting made on 25 November 1979 at around 9:30 pm, above another municipality in the Loiret.

Because so much time had passed between the events and their becoming public, the gendarmerie could not carry out any checks on site. No further information was gathered. GEIPAN classified the case as C, as there was not enough data to reach a conclusion.
